Log cabin sealant
To prevent air and humidity from entering the space or chink between logs in a log cabin, it is necessary to fill them with a sealant.
This is called chinking.
Green glues
There is a growing interest in adhesive solutions which are based on substances of natural origin and which can be made by anyone using commonly available ingredients.
Birch tar glue/sealant
This method is derived from techniques still in use in Scandinavia.
Bark from other tree species can be used but the best properties are still obtained from birch.
Egg glue (Albumen)
Egg white contains albumen which has a strong adhesive power. It was used for centuries as a binder in tempera, for book illumination and for gilding.
